30MW New Lagos Plant Provides Affordable Power Boost for EKEDC

Wärtsilä is supplying and maintaining a new 30MW modular power plant on Victoria Island, Lagos, for a local independent power producer. Developed by Elektron Energy and partners, the project is Nigeria’s first of its kind and aims to set a model for future power expansions. Wärtsilä is responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and five years of plant management and maintenance.

Elektron Energy’s co-CEO Deen Solebo explained that the new 30MW power plant, using efficient and flexible reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) technology, will run on natural gas and connect to EKEDC’s NEPA Close Site to improve power reliability. The plant will feature three Wärtsilä 34SG gas engines and can be expanded with an additional unit. Site preparation is on track for completion by Q2 2025, with construction and commissioning to follow. VIPL has secured power purchase agreements with customers and backing from several institutional investors. Wärtsilä also announced a major energy storage system supply for a solar battery project in Australia.

The article titled “Wärtsilä to provide power generation equipment for 30MW power plant in Nigeria” was originally produced and published by Power Technology, a brand owned by GlobalData.
