VP Shettima Seeks Vitol’s Support for $25B Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline

Vice President Kashim Shettima met with Vitol Group executives in Abuja, urging them to invest in Nigeria’s gas sector. He highlighted the $25 billion Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline aimed at supplying gas to Europe, aligning with President Tinubu’s economic reforms. Shettima praised Tinubu’s bold policies—fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and tax reforms—and called on global investors to support Nigeria’s stable and transparent energy transition.

Vice President Shettima urged Vitol to invest in Nigeria’s gas sector, highlighting its stability and vast reserves. He emphasized LNG and APG opportunities, noting NLNG’s reliability and minimal government interference. Shettima called for both funding and expertise for the $25B Nigeria-Morocco pipeline, inviting Vitol to support gas exports to Europe.

Vitol CFO Jeffrey Dellapina reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria, pledging continued investment. Public Affairs Head Murtala Baloni highlighted Vitol’s $300M support for NNPC’s Project Gazelle during the pandemic.In 2018, Nigeria and Morocco signed agreements for the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP), aimed at supplying gas from Nigeria to West Africa, Morocco, and Europe.

The 5,660km pipeline will pass through 15 African countries, boosting trade, energy access, and job creation. It will also reduce gas flaring in Nigeria and support energy diversification. The project is being managed through a Nigeria-Morocco joint venture and will be executed in three phases connecting various West African nations.
