Eko DisCo Nabs Vandals, Secures Two Convictions

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has reinforced its zero-tolerance stance on energy theft, vandalism, and illegal connections, securing two convictions and arraigning two more suspects in Lagos and Ogun States. According to GM Corporate Communications, Mr. Babatunde Lasaki, recent legal actions initiated in 2024–2025 have yielded notable results.

On March 13, 2025, a Lagos magistrate sentenced Mr. Christopher Osayi to two months in prison for damaging electrical infrastructure in Lekki Phase 1, highlighting EKEDC’s commitment to protecting its assets and ensuring justice.Following the convictions, EKEDC’s spokesperson, Mr. Babatunde Lasaki, stressed that vandalism and energy theft are forms of economic sabotage that threaten power supply.In another case, Magistrate Alao Maimuna sentenced former security guard David Ndueso to three months in prison for attempting to steal a 600-meter cable from EKEDC’s facility on January 19, 2025.

EKEDC also arraigned two more suspects, Babatunde Opeyemi and Idowu Raji, for vandalizing a 100kVA transformer in Yaba, Lagos, reinforcing the company’s commitment to protecting infrastructure and enforcing security.The case before Hon. Shitta at Yaba Magistrates’ Court has been adjourned to June 25, 2025.Mr. Lasaki stated that vandalism disrupts power supply and urged the public to report suspicious activities via EKEDC’s whistle-blower channels.He thanked customers, community leaders, and security agencies for their support in safeguarding power infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity.EKEDC is investing in tech, infrastructure, and community efforts to fight energy theft. Offenders will face full legal action.
