Kosmos Energy achieves first LNG production from bp-operated GTA project off West Africa.

On December 31, 2024, the first phase of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project reached a significant milestone as gas began flowing from the wells to the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. This marks the beginning of the commissioning process for the project.

Once at the FPSO, the gas undergoes processing to remove condensate, water, and other impurities before being sent to the floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel for liquefaction. With the gas now successfully delivered to the FLNG vessel, the liquefaction process has officially commenced.

This stage is particularly important for Kosmos Energy, as it signifies the point at which the company starts recognizing its gas entitlement production from the GTA project in its quarterly financial statements. Additionally, bp has formally notified the designated offtaker, bp Gas Marketing Ltd., to arrange for an LNG carrier to arrive later this quarter.

This carrier will transport the first LNG cargo for export. The actual lifting of this initial LNG cargo is a critical event for Kosmos Energy, as it represents the moment when the company will begin recognizing revenue and generating cash flow from the project.

Commenting on this milestone achievement, Andrew G. Inglis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kosmos Energy, emphasized the significance of first LNG production for all stakeholders involved. He stated: “First LNG is another major milestone for Kosmos, the GTA partnership, and the governments of Mauritania and Senegal.

We are looking forward to the accelerated ramp-up of LNG production and the first LNG cargo lifting during the first quarter.”This development underscores the progress of the GTA project and its potential to become a key supplier in the global LNG market while strengthening energy partnerships in the region
