Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, has been appointed to the Executive Board of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO) as Nigeria’s representative. The appointment was made by Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
APPO praised Ogbe’s selection, noting his leadership comes at a critical time for Africa’s oil and gas industry. NCDMB has played a key role in supporting APPO initiatives, including launching the African Local Content Roundtable and proposing the Africa Energy Bank, which aims to fund major oil and gas projects across the continent.
The Africa Energy Bank, led by APPO, aims to fund oil and gas projects across Africa and reduce reliance on Western financiers. Each APPO member is expected to contribute $83 million toward a $5 billion capital goal. Nigeria, Angola, and Ghana have already contributed, covering 44% of the required capital.
NCDMB confirmed its role in forming the bank and announced it will launch by Q2 2025 to support local energy projects. Afrexim Bank has raised $19 billion, including $5 billion in take-off capital and $14 billion already committed to African oil and gas projects.
