NGA President Selected as Africa Regional Head for International Gas Union

At the World Gas Conference in Beijing, Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi, President of the Nigerian Gas Association, was appointed as the International Gas Union’s Regional Coordinator for Africa. This role highlights his and NGA’s impact on advancing gas for energy security in Africa and reinforces Nigeria’s leadership in the continent’s gas industry. Nwokedi will serve as the key link between IGU and African nations, representing their interests in global gas policy, promoting collaboration, and supporting natural gas development across Africa.

Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi succeeds Eng. Khaled AbuBakr as IGU’s Regional Coordinator for Africa, following AbuBakr’s election as IGU Vice-President for 2028-2031. Nwokedi described the role as both an honor and a responsibility, highlighting Nigeria’s leadership in Africa’s gas sector and the opportunity to promote sustainable energy and economic growth. The position is key to expanding gas infrastructure, fostering sustainable energy, and enhancing regional cooperation across Africa’s growing gas industry.
