Nigeria is advancing transparency in the oil and gas sector with the NUPRC’s Engineering Audit of Upstream Measurement Equipment, approved by the Federal Executive Council in 2024. The audit supports accurate hydrocarbon measurement and accountability, ensuring better revenue collection.
Mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, the NUPRC used the audit to identify gaps, verify measurement points, and build regulatory capacity in the upstream sector. The audit covered inspections of upstream metering systems, documentation of measurement points per the PIA, and strategies for equipment upgrades and new installations.
PE Energy Chairman Daere Akobo called it key to Nigeria’s oil and gas reforms, emphasizing accuracy and transparency under the Petroleum Industry Act. NUPRC CEO Gbenga Komolafe expressed enthusiasm, promising full implementation of the audit’s recommendations to improve resource management and revenue.
