Nigeria Plans to Boost Gas Output to 12 BSCF by 2030

Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, is negotiating with gas producers to increase Nigeria’s daily gas production from 7.3 to 12 billion standard cubic feet by 2030. He emphasized the need to boost production by 1 billion scf annually to meet national targets and end routine gas flaring. Ekpo called for intensified drilling across all terrains and prioritizing gas processing and evacuation infrastructure to achieve this goal.

Minister Ekpo highlighted recent major oil company divestments as a key opportunity for Nigeria to boost production of both Associated and Non-Associated Gas. He emphasized the need for a clear strategy to speed up projects, modernize facilities, and adopt new technologies. Ekpo stressed strengthening collaboration with international partners for gas infrastructure projects like the AKK and OB-3 pipelines, vital for connecting gas to markets and positioning Nigeria as a regional gas hub. He praised NNPC/TotalEnergies JV for ending routine gas flaring and urged others to follow suit to reduce emissions and create value. He also called for faster project timelines, better resource allocation, and public-private partnerships to address funding and technical hurdles.

NUPRC CEO Gbenga Komolafe assured investors of a supportive environment and upcoming gas asset bids. President Tinubu, via aide Esege Esege, is focused on maximizing the gas sector’s potential. NNPC’s Olalekan Ogunleye confirmed strong collaboration across the gas value chain to meet targets and improve affordability.

Ogunleye reported AKK and OB-3 pipelines are 78% and 97% complete, aiming for timely finish. Industry leaders, including NNPC, Shell, Seplat, and others, pledged to unlock Nigeria’s gas potential for development.
