At the 2025 World Gas Conference in Beijing, NLNG’s Tolu Longe emphasized the need for cleaner fuels in the shipping industry to reduce pollution. She highlighted the role of LNG, ammonia, and hydrogen in decarbonizing fleets and discussed challenges like high upgrade costs and lack of green shipping incentives.
Longe also examined market factors such as limited shipbuilding capacity in Asia and geopolitical shifts affecting LNG trade. She concluded by stressing the importance of digital innovation in shaping the industry’s future.
She highlighted that technologies like artificial intelligence for smarter routing and fuel optimization, along with emerging carbon capture solutions, are already available. What’s needed now, she stressed, is coordinated action across financial systems, policy frameworks, and industry stakeholders to drive the transition forward.
