Russia detained the Liberian-flagged oil tanker Green Admire, owned by Greece’s Aegean Shipping, as it sailed from Estonia to Rotterdam through Russian waters.
The tanker was carrying shale oil and following a planned route. The incident occurred shortly after Estonia attempted to intercept a Russian shadow tanker.Vessels departing from the port of Sillamae usually transit Russian waters, as it’s a safer route for large ships compared to navigating between shoals in Estonian waters.
However, Estonia’s Department of Transport stated this was the first incident of its kind and will now reroute ships through Estonian territorial waters to prevent future occurrences
