Shell Emphasizes Benefits of Offshore Investment for Nigerian Industry

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has emphasized the potential benefits for Nigerian companies from its ongoing offshore and shallow water oil and gas projects. Speaking at the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair in Bayelsa, SNEPCo highlighted major projects like Bonga Southwest Aparo, Bonga North, and Bonga Main Life Extension as opportunities for local firms to grow their businesses and capabilities by engaging in high-value contracts.

SNEPCo, which pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater oil exploration with the Bonga project, urged local firms to prepare for more opportunities in its operations. Managing Director Ronald Adams noted that Nigerian companies can expand their capabilities in areas like logistics, drilling, subsea construction, and gas processing for both deepwater and shallow water projects. Since Bonga began production in 2005, SNEPCo has supported local contractors in building capacity to deliver safe, efficient projects across Nigeria and West Africa.

These efforts contributed to the successful operation of the Bonga FPSO, which reached 1 billion barrels of oil output in February 2023.Adams said SNEPCo views local content as a key business strategy, not just a regulation, and will keep supporting Nigerian firms in the oil and gas sector. The three-day NOGOF event, hosted by NCDMB, focuses on boosting investment and production through local capacity.SNEPCo, a sponsor, is showcasing its economic and community contributions at the event.
