
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has urged Nigerian companies to strategically position themselves to benefit from upcoming offshore and shallow water oil and gas projects. Speaking at the 5th Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair, SNEPCo MD Ronald Adams highlighted key projects like Bonga Southwest Aparo, Bonga North, and Bonga Main Life Extension as major opportunities for local businesses to expand capacity and expertise.
SNEPCo MD Ronald Adams highlighted the company’s pioneering role in Nigeria’s deepwater oil exploration through the Bonga development. He noted that since production began in 2005, SNEPCo has supported Nigerian contractors in building capacity across areas like logistics, drilling, and equipment construction. This support has enabled local firms to manage key operations, including the Bonga FPSO, which reached a milestone of one billion barrels of oil produced in February 2023.Between 2026 and 2027, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique are expected to launch 10 new offshore drilling projects, signaling growth in Africa’s deepwater oil and gas sector.
In 2023, Nigeria’s Bonga field, operated by SNEPCo, reached one billion barrels of oil exported, followed by a $5 billion investment in the Bonga North project in 2025. SNEPCo also expressed confidence in Nigeria reaching over 2.4 million barrels per day through deepwater exploration.
