Two workers injured in the May 20 fire on a Chevron oil platform off Angola’s coast have died from their injuries while undergoing treatment in South Africa, according to Angola’s Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals. One died on May 24, and the other on Tuesday.
The fire broke out during scheduled maintenance, injuring 17 people in total. Authorities are attempting to recover a body seen underwater near the site.
Located about 97 kilometers (60 miles) offshore, the platform is operated by Chevron’s local subsidiary, which is collaborating with authorities and supporting impacted employees and families, the ministry added.
