Troops Dismantle 21 Illegal Refineries, Detain 23 Suspects

Troops of Operation Delta Safe deactivated 21 illegal refineries and apprehended 23 oil thieves in the Niger Delta within one week, according to Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye. They also recovered over 121,000 litres of stolen crude oil and various quantities of illegally refined products. Additionally, troops destroyed multiple tools used for oil theft, including 25 crude oil cooking ovens, 32 pits, 40 storage tanks, 28 drums, and 19 boats.

Troops of Operation Delta Safe recovered various items, including engines, pipes, drilling machines, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and nine vehicles. In addition to arresting 23 oil thieves, they seized assorted arms and ammunition.Between June 6 and 10, troops conducted anti-kidnapping and anti-crime operations across Imo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Aniocha North, leading to the arrest of 11 suspects, the rescue of a kidnapped victim, and the recovery of weapons and equipment.

Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye urged citizens to support security efforts, emphasizing unity as key to overcoming national security challenges.In late May 2025, the Nigerian Navy’s FOB Escravos destroyed eight illegal refining sites in Warri South, Delta State. Commanding Officer Navy Capt. Ikenna Okoloagu said the sites were dismantled during three operations in Obodo Omadina Community.
