Trump lifts restriction on Equinor’s $5B Empire Wind; work resumes.

The U.S. has lifted the stop-work order on Equinor’s $5B Empire Wind project after discussions with federal, state, and local officials. The offshore wind farm will power 500,000 New York homes. Equinor CEO Anders Opedal thanked President Trump, Governor Hochul, and other leaders for their support, also acknowledging Norway’s government for backing the project during a crucial period.

Equinor Wind U.S. President Molly Morris said the Empire Wind project supports U.S. and New York energy goals and boosts supply chains in multiple states. NOIA President Erik Milito praised the Trump administration for lifting the stop-work order, highlighting the project’s role in supporting energy demand, job creation, and economic growth.

Equinor will update the project’s economic assessment in Q2. Empire plans to carry out offshore installations in 2025 and start commercial operations by 2027. The project will work with suppliers and regulators to minimize delays from the stop-work order.
